humility Why humility is important in life

There’s a lot of things you could call being humble. Unappealing? Awkward? Boring? Dull?

Well, let’s not go there.

Instead, let’s talk about its importance in life and why it is something we should all aspire to have more of.

1) It makes you a better listener

Humility means you are more open, less focused on proving your own worth, and more focused on understanding the person in front of you.

You may not believe this to be true.

I’ve had several conversations in college and have talked to some pretty cool people who always care for my opinion or the person who was speaking. They made me feel so special when I talked and I always want to meet them again.

That’s when I know the importance of being humble and being a great listener.

After that, I can’t tell you how many times I was able to connect better with people after hearing them out and not being judgemental about what they say.

If you are one of the few who actually like listening, then humility is a great thing to have.

If you listen, remember that, and ask questions later when people aren’t trying to impress you, it makes you a great listener.

2) Build strong relationship with others

Humility allows you to be more open-minded and understanding.

Instead of hanging out with people just like you, which is boring, it gives you the ability to relate and connect with people who are different.

These are signs of a strong relationship.

If we’re all the same, we don’t need each other.

Besides, having conversations with people who think differently from you can expand your thinking in different dimensions. That, surprisingly, would help you to understand yourself better.

With humility, we can be ourselves and still understand each other.

3) Improve your reputation in your group or social circle

This one goes hand in hand with building a strong relationship with others

If you’re humble, people will enjoy talking with you.

You don’t have to be funny or entertaining.

You don’t have to be the best conversationalist either.

Listening to others and being about the conversation is the most important aspect of this for a few reasons.

First, humility can help show other people that you care about them and are interested in what they have to say enough that you’re focused on them and not yourself.

Secondly, it helps show them that you’re not trying to impress anybody or be the life of the party.

You’re just there to talk and enjoy their company.

Other people can feel comfortable and confident around you once you achieve that.

Let’s go to the next point to understand more why humility is a great way to get people to like you, trust you, and feel comfortable around you.

4) Humility is a great way to get people to like you

Humility is one of the best ways to have people warm up to you.

If they see your selflessness, they’ll be more willing to hear what you have to say, get to know what kind of person you are, and know that they can trust you with their problems if they need someone.

If we could all learn humility in our own lives and share that with the world around us, I think we could achieve great things.

I was reading a book on this subject. It stated that a person who is humble tends to be more successful.

I think humility helps you grow as a person and enjoy yourself while doing it.

The fact that it makes people like you and trust you better is just an added bonus.

People will be more comfortable around someone who has the ability to listen and understand other people’s thoughts and feelings about something.

5) Humility helps you to empathize with others

Humility helps you see things from others’ perspectives.

This is a part of being humble that many people overlook.

If you don’t understand something, then you don’t have all the knowledge in the world.

You only have what other people have said about it and what you think about the item itself.

This means that for a lot of things, it’s okay to be wrong and not know everything about an item or subject.

Being humble gives you the ability to recognize when you are wrong, when your opinion might be different than someone else’s, which is a great way to learn about something new and make yourself more prepared for the future if it turns out to be right.

6) Improve your appearance

Humility will help you look better, even when you wear less accessories.

You’re not trying to look good or impress anyone. You want to look good, because it’s a decent thing to do.

You want to look good in the most simple image, but surprisingly that comes with the best consequence.

People can see how humble you are and like you for being yourself instead of how luxury or fashion you are.

This is a great thing for confidence and body image.

If I have nothing to prove, then I don’t need to put on makeup or to wear a luxury clothing brand every day if I don’t feel like it.

7) Help you be more productive

Humility helps you focus on the task at hand.

If you’re focused on what others think of you, then usually that means you fail at accomplishing your goals.

But when you have humility, all you’ll care about is completing tasks responsibly and thoroughly if your goal is to do so.

There will be other people who are concerned with themselves and their image more than what they’ve accomplished in life or the task at hand when they work with someone else.

But that’s not you once you master humility in your life.

8) Through humility, we can find happiness and peace

I think this one might be what most people talk about. Humility will make you less self-centered.

It’s not about helping you get happy or making others happy.

Instead, it’s about helping yourself and others to find a common peace in your own being and in the universe around you.

You will understand “enough” and see things as “a half-full cup” more often when you’re being humble.

If our world was full of more humble people, I think our world would be more peaceful in the long run.

9) Keep you away from conflict

I’ve had a lot of people come to me for advice about relationships. And I often suggest them to try and stay away from becoming involved in debates as they usually don’t result in anything positive.

Even if you come out on top, you’ll have sacrificed your compassion for victory, and if not, your logic will have failed you.

The most prudent approach is to abstain from getting involved in arguments in the first place.

Furthermore, humility is a crucial component that assists in avoiding confrontation.

When you’re not self-focused, it makes other people more comfortable around you, meaning no one will want to start an argument with you.

Besides, if there are issues happening in your life, humility helps you to solve them more than people who have a lot of pride in themselves.

I think humility will help you to find your peace even if things are not going as they should.

You’ll be able to avoid just rushing back into things after an argument you had but being more calm and composed in the long run with a lot less frustrations.

10) Help you to become a leader

Humility is a crucial factor when it comes to being a leader.

There are so many things that come into play when you’re a leader.

You have to be strong, confident, and a role model for the people who are following you.

But you can’t be those things if humility is not one of them.

Humble leaders are those who know what they are good at and not dependent on that skill.

They accept the truth of their limitations, and work to improve them.

They focus on the work at hand, not on the outcome or recognition of their actions.

So with humility, you will be more likely to succeed in any position you have.

How do we cultivate humility in our daily lives?

It’s not an easy thing to do, but it can be done if you practice being humble enough when it comes to interactions with others every day.

I’ll let the article speak for itself, but here are some tips I learned from my life.

1) Be humble and grateful

If you don’t know how to be kind and respectful towards others, then start there and get to know how to do it as best you can.

Say thank you, comment on accomplishments, or even just compliment someone’s posture or a nice hairstyle if it looks nice more often than normal.

Stop asking the question: “Why would I do that? Will helping others benefit me in any way?”

When we help other people with their lives, or at least just help them to feel good about themselves, they usually do the same things back, and that’s when you start to appreciate the happiness of making people happy.

2) Knowing that you are not special

It’s not easy to do, but you must stop thinking that you are the best at everything.

Sure, you know a lot about many things and have accumulated more knowledge than other people, but that doesn’t mean you are special than everyone else.

As Justin Brown says in his YouTube video, there’re around 7 billion humans on this planet. Out of those 7 billion human beings, how many of them are special and unique?

We evolved to be social animals. And in order for us to function as a social animal, we have to think of ourselves as a part of a group.

But throughout the ages, we as individuals have come to prioritize our own individualism and distance ourselves from the larger collective.

I was shocked after watching his video as I couldn’t agree more with what he said.

If you would like to gain a clearer comprehension of this idea, view his video to comprehend why we are not extraordinary.

3) Listen and understand

Although it’s important to have your own thoughts and opinions, you have to know when someone else is talking.

I’ve noticed that many people do not listen well in their day-to-day lives. They are waiting for a pause in conversation so they can talk about something else or just thinking about what they want to say next.

By taking the time to attentively listen to what other people have to say, we can gain knowledge that we may not have been aware of.

This will enable us to be more receptive to the views of others, and consequently, the quality of humility will become increasingly apparent in our behavior.

4) It shouldn’t be forced or stressful

Humility is an important part of everyday life, but sometimes people can overdo it.

Showing humility for no reason becomes boring and fake.

If you constantly show off how nice and great you are, then people will actually notice.

Besides, there will be some individuals who use your politeness and modesty against you.

So you should differentiate between being humble and letting yourself be taken advantage of by someone else.

5) You can grow

Humility can grow with you as a person and help make the world a better place.

If you are doing things to help others on a regular basis, then everyone will start to recognize you for this new way of living your life.

You will be happier in the long run because you’re truly enjoying yourself with the people around you.

Last words

You can use these tips to help you be a better person the next time someone talks to you or interacts with you in any way.

This article is aimed at helping you build a habit of humility and helping you find more success in your everyday life

People will like working with you and helping you with things, and you’ll be happier for it in the end.

If this was helpful, do share it with anyone else who might need it as well!
