Self-confidence is a vital part of life and has an impact on almost every aspect of our lives.

It is an essential part of our mental health, success, and happiness.

It can be difficult to maintain and build, but it is absolutely worth the effort.

Why, you may ask?

Well, here are 10 reasons why self-confidence is so important and why it is worth investing time into building and maintaining it:

1) It increases your sense of worth

One of the most important aspects of self-confidence is feeling your worth and being able to recognize that you are valuable and important, regardless of what others say.

This will help you to trust in yourself and your abilities and to recognize and appreciate your strengths, rather than focusing on your flaws and what you “think you should be doing”.

This will help you to see that you are not perfect, but are human and that it is OK to make mistakes and to learn.

It will also help you to have the self-love and self-care that you need in order to be your best self and to be the person that you deserve to be.

You’d be surprised how many people struggle with low self-worth or basing their worth on extrinsic factors.

When you have a healthy sense of self-worth, you will feel comfortable with who you are and what you bring to the table.

You’ll be more likely to feel confident in your opinions and actions, rather than worried about what others think of you.

That’s essentially what we want, because when you are confident in your opinions, you can make better decisions, which brings me to my next point:

2) It helps you make better decisions

If you have low self-confidence, you will likely find that you find it hard to make decisions and that you are often plagued by self-doubt.

With self-confidence, you will feel more positive about your decisions and be able to trust in your intuition to guide you.

This, coupled with the ability to look at all of your options and facts when making a decision, will help you to make better decisions and to feel more confident in your choices.

This will, in turn, help you to feel more in control of your life and your future and have a sense of empowerment and direction.

Trust me, there are so many people out there who are terrified of making their own choices because they aren’t confident in their own decision-making skills.

When you have a healthy sense of self-confidence, you will feel more comfortable with making decisions and trusting your own judgment.

This will help you to be more decisive and to trust in your intuition, which can help make life a little easier.

Most importantly, you will trust yourself, which I wanted to talk about next:

3) It helps you to trust yourself

As mentioned above, when you have lower levels of self-confidence, you are likely to be plagued by self-doubt.

When you trust yourself, you will notice that you feel more positive about your decisions and your choices.

This doesn’t mean that you won’t experience doubts or moments of uncertainty, but that you will be able to trust in yourself and your intuition to guide you toward the best direction.

This will help you to feel more in control of your life and more empowered in your decisions.

It will also help you to feel less stressed and more at ease when making choices.

When you don’t trust yourself, it can be an incredibly stressful experience, which can cause you to make rash decisions and become very stressed.

When you trust yourself, you will be able to feel more relaxed and confident in your choices and feel less pressure.

And the best part? You will not be plagued by anxiety throughout your days because you know that life is uncertain, but you are sure that no matter what happens, you will be able to handle it when it does!

Now, some perks of confidence are extrinsic…

4) It makes you more attractive

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, it is likely that people will notice, and it will make you more attractive to others.

When you are more comfortable and at ease in your own skin and have a positive, outgoing attitude, you will be more attractive to others.

This will help to build better relationships, whether they be romantic or platonic, and will help to have people who genuinely like and admire you.

A person who is more attractive will also be able to communicate better and have more positive interactions with others, which will help them to achieve their goals and feel more confident in themselves.

Trust me, you don’t have to be conventionally attractive – as long as you show up with confidence, that confidence will radiate and make you more attractive to others.

It’s like a superpower!

And the best part?

You’ll be okay with taking more risks:

5) It gives you the courage to take risks

When you have lower levels of self-confidence, you might find it harder to take risks.

You might be worried about failing and embarrassing yourself. You might not be comfortable taking risks and doing things that you might regret.

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, you will likely notice that you are more comfortable taking risks and are less likely to be deterred by the fear of making mistakes.

Taking more risks is essential for success and growth, and it is important that you don’t let self-doubt hold you back.

When you feel more confident in yourself, you will be more willing to take risks and try new things.

This will help you to grow and to achieve more of what you want in life.

No risk – no reward. Sometimes, we need to take risks in life in order to get to the next level.

Nothing new and exciting is found in our comfort zones!

But speaking of comfort zone, you will be very comfortable in your own values:

6) It helps you to know your own values and stick to them

When you have lower levels of self-confidence, it is likely that you will have a harder time knowing what your values are and sticking to them when necessary.

This is because when you are less confident, you are likely to be more swayed by the opinions of others and your own self-doubt.

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, you will be more comfortable standing up for your values and will be more likely to know what is important to you.

This will help you to have better interactions with others and to feel more confident in yourself and in your choices.

This will also help to improve your ability to communicate your needs with others and create better and healthier relationships.

However, confidence or not, some people are confused when it comes to what their values truly are.

It’s no surprise, really – we don’t talk about values that much anymore, do we?

However, I have something that helped me out personally, so maybe it will help you, too.

There is this free checklist with an exercise included that will help you to define what your personal values actually are!

After doing the exercise, you will have a lot more clarity on what is truly important to you, which will, in turn, boost your confidence!

Once you know your values, this next thing will come easier to you, too:

7) It helps you to set boundaries in relationships

If you have lower levels of self-confidence, you might be more likely to let others walk all over you and take advantage of you.

You might not feel comfortable setting boundaries and might be too worried about hurting someone’s feelings to stick up for yourself.

This is extremely unhealthy and can lead to feelings of resentment, feelings of being trapped, and feelings of not being able to be yourself.

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, you will be more comfortable setting boundaries and communicating your needs and wants with others.

This will help you to have healthier relationships and to feel more empowered and in control of your life.

It will also help you to avoid feeling trapped or obligated to someone or something that you don’t really want to be involved in.

Trust me, boundaries are one of the things that will improve your relationships drastically!

Something else that will be a game-changer in your relationships? Communication.

8) It helps you to communicate better

When you have lower levels of self-confidence, it can be hard to communicate what you want and what is on your mind.

It can be hard to be assertive and to trust your own thoughts and judgment.

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, you will be more comfortable standing up for yourself, expressing your needs and thoughts, and being open and honest in your communication.

This will help you to have better relationships and more positive interactions with others.

In addition, it will help you to become more confident in yourself and in your abilities, as well as your thoughts, feelings, and desires.

Communication is key for any relationship, so if you are confident, you will immediately see an improvement in how you relate to others.

But that’s not even the best part yet… It will also help you with your goals!

9) It helps you to achieve your goals

If you have lower levels of self-confidence, you might feel less motivated to achieve your goals and might be more likely to let yourself get distracted or let negative thoughts get in the way.

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, you will likely feel more motivated and confident in your abilities and will be less likely to be deterred by your own negative thoughts and feelings.

Having higher levels of self-confidence will help you to focus on your goals and your passions, rather than letting yourself be distracted and letting your feelings get the best of you.

This will help you to achieve more of what you want in life, as well as feel more empowered and motivated to do the things that you want to do.

Wouldn’t it be great to have the confidence to go after what you really want?

Well, confidence can do that!

And you’ll even feel good about yourself in the process, which is my next point:

10) It will help to improve your body image and how you view yourself

Self-confidence will help you to improve your Body Image and how you view yourself.

When you have higher levels of self-confidence, you will likely feel more comfortable in your own skin, and this will help to improve your Body Image and how you view yourself.

This is because when you feel more secure in your strengths and abilities when you feel more empowered and secure in your relationships, and when you are more comfortable with your values and choices, you are likely to have a better Body Image and view of yourself.

This is incredibly important for your mental health and will help you to feel more comfortable with yourself and your body, which will let you be your best self.

And best of all, I saved this one for last:

11) It helps you to accept yourself for who you are

Self-confidence is essentially about feeling good about yourself and recognizing that there’s nothing wrong with being exactly who you are.

One of the biggest contributors to low self-confidence is comparing yourself to others and feeling like there’s something wrong with you because you don’t measure up in some way.

You might be comparing yourself to other people in your workplace, family, or social circle.

You might be comparing your appearance, abilities, or achievements. Or maybe it’s something else entirely.

Whatever form it takes, this kind of comparison leads to feelings of inadequacy and anxiety because we are all different and we all have our unique strengths and weaknesses.

And that’s okay!

When you feel good about yourself, you will recognize that there’s nothing wrong with being exactly who you are, and that there’s nothing wrong with the way you look, think, or act.

And this will help to improve your Body Image and how you view yourself.

Final thoughts

Building and maintaining self-confidence is an essential part of life.

It is an important part of our mental health and can help us to be happier and healthier and to achieve our goals and dreams.

It can be difficult to build and maintain self-confidence, but it is absolutely worth it and will make your life so much better.

What is holding you back from being confident?
